Afghan hound is very classy and elegant to look at. Looks
more like a model doing ramp walk than a dog. Its hair is so silky and gait
elegant. This is one of the oldest known breed of Dogs. It hails from Afghanistan
and is said to be domesticated for more than 2000 years. Originally it was
called Tazi In Afghanistan.
It is well adapted to city living and is happily lives in
small apartments. It can also bear extreme hot and cold weather so you can pet
it anywhere in world. It is not much demanding so even if you are first time
dog owner, it is fine for you, though it do not like to be alone and needs you
most of the time.
It is very affectionate dog and is very friendly in nature.
It loves children and thus if you have small kids at home, this dog suits your
home just fine.
It is big in size and does have shedding hair problem. It is
not easy to groom nor is it easy to train even though the dog is quite
intelligent. He doesn’t bark much but he needs lots of exercise daily. He is
also of playful nature.
He is usually 2 feet tall and weighs about 50 pounds and
lives about 10 to 12 years. In wild he can run long distances and was
originally used as hunting dog both in mountains and deserts of Afghanistan. Thus you should be careful because he would
hunt cats of your neighbors or squirrels in your garden.
